Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS has commended the leadership of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) and other corporate business organizations in the state on their unwavering support to the government by promoting business activities and attracting investors to the state.
The Governor made the statement while declaring open the Nigeria- Indonesia Business forum held on Thursday at the Sweet Spirit Hotel in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital, saying that the government is committed towards revitalization of Agriculture and Manufacturing Industries, adding that Port Harcourt is the economic hub of Nigeria.
Governor Fubara who was represented by the Secretary to Rivers State government, Dr Tammy Danagogo expressed the hope that the business forum will explore other avenues for business growth just as he mentioned that the state government has set up Business and Investment Promotion Agency to attract investments and facilitate the policies of ease of doing business in the state, and ensuring proper implementation of the Communique reached at the recently concluded Rivers State Economic and Investment Summit.
In his address, the President of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) Eze, Sir Mike Elechi, NPOM, JP, FNIM, DSSRS explained that the 3rd edition of Nigeria-Indonesia Business forum is a bilateral trade promotion event between Indonesian Companies doing business in Nigeria and their counterparts in various sectors of the Nigerian economy.
The PHCCIMA Boss maintained that the aim of the Business forum is to provide more business opportunities to the Chamber members and residents of the State through one-on-one interaction and networking session with the view of attracting more businesses to the state and promoting commercial activities thereby attracting investments into the state.
He also revealed that PHCCIMA and Indonesia Trade Promotion Council in Nigeria have agreed to co-host Port Harcourt International Handicraft Expo and Nigerian Hospital Expo in Port Harcourt later in the year, adding that PHCCIMA has also assured their Indonesia partners to lead a Business Delegation on a trade mission to the 39th Trade Expo Indonesia scheduled to hold from 9th to 12 October this year at ICE-BSD, of which both parties are prepared to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Business forum.
While thanking the Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS for creating an enabling environment for business activities to thrive and development of SMEs in the state, he urged participants and exhibitors at the business forum to make good use of the opportunities provided by the forum.
In his submission, the Director, Indonesia Trade Promotion Council (ITPC), Dr Immanuel Lingga said that Indonesia is the highest producer of Oil palm products hence the collaborations with Nigeria to explore ways of exporting each other’s products.
Highlights of the business forum was the signing of the MOU paper by the Vice Chairman of Indonesia Trade Promotion Council and PHCCIMA President. The Business Forum was well attended by other distinguished members of the Chamber including the Chamber Treasurer, Surveyor Emmanuel Ogbonda, the Director General Mr. Erasmus Chukunda, the Deputy Director General, Mr. Philip Obiandu, Representative of the Managing Director of Indorama Petrochemicals and Fertilizer Company, Captains of Industry and Stakeholders as shown above.
