PHCCIMA PRESIDENT RECEIVES CIVIL RIGHTS ADVOCATE

The President of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) Eze, Sir Mike Elechi, NPOM DSSRS, FNIM, JP has received members of Community Conciliation and Development Initiative (CCADI) on an advocacy visit at the Chamber Secretariat in Port Harcourt.

Speaking at the event, the leader of the delegation, Amaechi Kelechi Justin who is the Rivers State lead Civil Space Watch Cluster of  Community Conciliation and Development Initiative (CCADI) explained that they were at the Chamber to seek partnership and collaboration with the private sector in Rivers State on criminal justice administration and social changes  in the society.

He maintained that his group has concluded plans to sponsor a bill at the Rivers State House of Assembly to allow women participate in the bailing processes of suspects in police custody, adding that they had visited several police stations to question the rational behind restrictions on women from partaking in the bail process.

The Civil right advocate who was accompanied  by two other members of his group including the Vice  Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association, Port  Harcourt Branch, Emmanuel Okpala, Esq. expressed optimism that partnering with the Port

Harcourt Chamber of Commerce which is a powerful stakeholder in the society, their dream will be achieved.

Responding, the President of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) Eze Sir Mike Elechi, NPOM DSSRS, FNIM, JP thanked the Civil Right group on their initiative particularly their efforts towards achieving female property inheritance in the State.

The PHCCIMA Boss commended the Civil Society group on their initiative to promote women participation in the processes of bail conditions for suspects in police detention, and advised them to do more advocacy which includes organizing town hall meetings where stakeholders and police authority will be in attendance to educate the society on the reason why women should participate in fulfilling bail conditions of suspects.

High point of the event were the exchange of souvenirs by the Chamber President and the Leader of the Civil Society group. Other PHCCIMA Exco members present were the 2nd Deputy President, Hon. Prince Charles Beke, NPOM, JP, Treasurer, Surveyor Emmanuel Ogbonda, FCAI, Elected  Council member, Amb. Clement  Akanibo, Director General, Mr. Erasmus Chukunda, Deputy Director General, Dr. Ikiri, Abraham, Joe and the Press Secretary, Mr. Joseph Asomeji.
