The President of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) Eze, Sir Mike Elechi, NPOM, JP, FNIM, DSSRS has approved the request of Germany Business Delegation on a strong bilateral ties in promoting opportunities and partnerships with local businesses in Port Harcourt that are into Metal processing, Food processing, Plastics and Energy.
The President disclosed this when the Germany Business Delegation paid him a courtesy visit at the Chamber Secretariat in Port Harcourt on Thursday, saying that the collaboration became necessary to engender better business relationships between German Companies and businesses in Rivers State and to attract German Companies participation in the annual Port Harcourt International Trade Fair as well as foreign direct investments from Germany into the State which will also enable the Chamber participation in foreign Trade Missions to meet with their counterparts on the German’s invitation, saying that the Chamber is readily available for such collaborations not limited to the aforementioned areas but in all other sectors.
According to him, Port Harcourt is home to two Seaports, (PortHarcourt Ports and Oil & Gas Free Zone at Onne), adding that Port Harcourt is also blessed with two Airports, the Port Harcourt International Airport where Lufthansa a German Airline facilitates international flights and a Local Airport inside Port Harcourt City.
The PHCCIMA boss further informed his visitors that Rivers State is blessed with a lot of mineral resources just as he noted in the areas of Agriculture, that the state is a natural rainforest with all year round rainfall with green vegetation as well being the home of palm trees within the Oil Palm Belt of Nigeria.
Earlier in his presentation, the leader of the German Business Delegation, Mr Sebastian Glaser said they were in Nigeria and Port Harcourt in particular to discuss modalities of doing business in line with their request for collaborations and partnerships with businesses in Rivers State.
He explained that the delegation consists of representatives of Deputy Consulate General of the German Embassy in Lagos and different German companies who are willing to invest in Rivers State, hence their visit to PHCCIMA which is the leader of the Organized Private Sector in the Region with the view of having robust collaborations in areas of export and import of good and services.
There were facility tours to the Chamber member Companies, M. Salah & Company Ltd, New RIVOC Ltd and Weco Engineering & Construction Company Limited. The reception of the German Business Delegation at the Chamber Secretariat in Port Harcourt was well attended by the Chamber Executives and Captains of Industries in Port Harcourt. There were interactive sessions between the German Business Delegation and PHCCIMA Executives on key areas of interest and how to consumate their bilateral relationships for the benefits of both parties during the reception program. PHCCIMA 2nd Deputy, Hon. Prince Charles Beke, JP, NPOM while presenting his vote of thanks appreciate the Business Delegation for their timely visit and assured them of the full cooperation of the Chamber to actualize the purpose of their business visit. The visitors were also presented with souvenirs and the Chamber Compendium of investment opportunities in Rivers State by the Chamber President.
