The President of PortHarcourt Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture PHCCIMA Dr Chinyere Nwoga FIMC, FIARSAC, FICA, M.IOD has advocated that certain level of employees should be free from tax especially those within the renge of One Million and below.
This was clarified w at a one day stakeholders open conversation on the Tax reform bill held at the State Secretariat of National Orientation Agency in PortHarcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Friday.
The PHCCIMA Boss who was represented by Amb. Clement Akanibo, Chairman Finance Trade Group, said that tax bill should incorporate digital payment system, adding that tax payers should have the liberty of choosing their tax representatives.
Dr. Nwoga further opined that those on the trenches of 8million tax band be increased to 15 million annually for proper integration.
In his remark, the Chairman of the occasion, His Royal Highness, King Prof. Promise Onyeche who thanked stakeholders on their efforts towards the sensitive matter that affect the citizens, positing that policies that are overbearing on the citizens should be discarded.
The Royal father maintained that the collective efforts of Nigerians should be to make the country a great nation that one can be proud of and expressed the believe that the president Tinubu led administration has seen the pains of the masses in line with the economic meltdown.
Earlier in his address, the Rivers State Director of National Orientation Agency, Barr. Young Ayotamuno who explained that the issue of multiple taxations have been a concern and is impacting negatively on the low income earners just as he called for a concerted effort to ease the pain on the ordinary people.
The state Director of NOA further assured that government are working round the clock to address multiple taxations, adding that there will be visible impact of taxes which can be use in building infrastructures, schools and other social amenities for the use of Nigerians.
The event also feature paper presentation by Dr. Leera Kpaghi of Hb Department of Economics, from Rivers State University.
