Dr. Chinyere Nwoga, President of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA), delivered a passionate charge at the grand opening of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) Rivers State Chapter T-Fair 2026, calling on architects to become active drivers of economic transformation through visionary, sustainable designs.
“Architecture is not just about buildings; it is the heartbeat of commerce, tourism, and industrial growth,” Dr. Nwoga declared to a packed audience at Galaxy La Palm Royal Resort in Port Harcourt. “Rivers State stands at the threshold of a new era. I charge you, our architects, to forge unbreakable partnerships with the private sector. Design infrastructure that attracts investment, creates jobs, and positions our state as West Africa’s hub for smart, climate-resilient development. Let every blueprint you produce today become tomorrow’s economic multiplier.”
Her remarks set the tone for the three-day event, themed “Designing Futures: Places · People · Possibilities,” which coincides with the NIA Rivers State Chapter’s 40th anniversary. NIA Rivers Chairman, Arc. Tosan Omatsone, MNIA, welcomed delegates by highlighting the chapter’s four-decade legacy while challenging professionals to embrace cutting-edge technology and inclusive urban planning. “This T-Fair is our platform to translate vision into reality,” she said, urging collaboration between architects, government, and business leaders.
Other speakers echoed the call for synergy. Industry stakeholders and policymakers stressed the need for public-private partnerships to tackle housing deficits, flood resilience, and smart-city initiatives. Exhibitions showcased innovative materials, green building solutions, and digital design tools, drawing students, professionals, and investors.
The T-Fair 2026 runs through April 18, promising masterclasses, networking sessions, and exhibitions that blend architectural excellence with Rivers State’s economic aspirations. Organizers say the event will culminate in actionable recommendations for sustainable development.
Mrs Bikepre Daniel-Kalio, Vice Chairman of the Real-Estate Trade Group, accompanied the President.
