Ahead of the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections across Nigeria, PHCCIMA President, Eze, Sir Mike Elechi, JP, FNIM, NPOM has presented three critical areas of consideration for growth of SMEs and Industrialization of Rivers State to the gubernatorial candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sir Siminialayi Fubara, DSSRS during the townhall meeting held with Corporate organisatios, Professionals, NGOs & Political Pressure Groups in Rivers State on Wednesday, 8th March at the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt. The townhall meeting which was organised by the Directorate of Intergovernmental Relations and Directorate of NGOs/PPGS of the People’s Democratic Party, Rivers State was centered on the Governorship Candidate’s manifesto which is geared towards consolidation on the gains of the Chief (Barr.) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON led administration.
The Chamber President whose organisation is the mouthpiece of the Organised Private Sector (OPS) in Rivers State, while making his presentation on behalf of the OPS commended the State Government for the massive infrastructural development in the State which he posited will attract investors into the state, and pushed forward for consideration the following critical points by the Governorship Candidate; 1. implementation of a policy that will halt the current drifting of Companies out of Trans Amadi Industrial Layout and creating more industrial centres/hubs in the State, 2. provision of a Funding programme that will promote and sustain MSMEs & SMEs in the State and 3. to revisit the tax harmonisation policy of the present administration to ensure its proper monitoring and implementation as a way of promoting the ease of doing business policy in the State.
In his response, the PDP Governorship candidate acknowledged the importance of the OPS assured the Rivers State Business Community of his plans to maintain the existing infrastructure in the Trans Amadi Industrial Layout to encourage return of Companies to the Industrial area and establishing three new Industrial Layouts/Hubs in the State, to create a programme that will re-engineer growth and sustenance of businesses in the State and provide a machinery for effective monitoring of the tax system in the State.
