Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce President and lead executive of PHCCIMA, Dr Chinyere Nwoga has stressed the need for women, especially those in business to break gender barriers by exerting their competence and capabilities to position women in their pride of place..

 The PHCCIMA lead made this commendation during a one-day training program for women organized by the British Council in collaboration with the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce and others at the corporate office of PHCCIMA in Port Harcourt.

She commended the British Council, and Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and other collaborators for the program and sustained advocacy to address the challenges of gender inequality.

She described PHCCIMA as good example of a business organization poised to break the gender barrier as exemplified by the emergence of a woman as the first female President of the chamber, urging women participants of the training program to join as members of PHCCIMA to open windows of mind-blowing opportunities irrespective of gender.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Chapter Coordinator Women Chamber of Commerce Industry, Mines and Agriculture WCCIMA, H.M Dr. Patricia Ogbonnaya also commended the group for their advocacy and sensitization, highlighting the importance of women in business joining the membership of PHCCIMA where opportunities abound.

In a presentation Titled: ´Training On Business Environment Reforms For Women Empowerment” Prof. Ada Chidi-Igbokwe from the University of Nigeria Nsuka emphasized the need for commitment to addressing gender equality in workplaces, and business environment, including the empowerment of women as stated in Sustainable Development Goal – SDG 5, which is focused on women’s participation and leadership in all areas of political, economic and public life.

 The presentation advocated for reforms in policy and legal framework, regulatory and administrative procedures, and institutional arrangements, identifying social and political considerations as a systemic approach to addressing gender inequality.
