ICAN An Integrity Based Professional Body – Dr Nwoga

…Reels Out PHCCIMA’s Benefits

President of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Dr Chinyere Nwoga, has described the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) as an integrity-based professional body
identified with a culture of discipline and high professional standards – qualities she said have placed the body ahead in the comity of accounting bodies.

Speaking as a facilitator at the April 2025 Members Forum of the ICAN held on the 9th of April 2025 at the Atrium Event Center, Port Harcourt. Dr. Nwoga also used the occasion to reel out some of the benefits and services of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, saying PHCCIMA is an eminent City Chamber in the comity of 72 City Chambers in Nigeria, standing firm as the second largest and one of the oldest being founded in 1957.

According to her, the Chamber is also renowned for its strategic advocacy roles for the creation of conducive corporate policies for the growth and development of private sector services in Rivers State.
Speaking to a large audience at the forum, she said the Chamber is into robust and broad-based partnerships and collaborations geared towards encouraging private investments and creating conducive business environments in the state, stressing that PHCCIMA is working in close collaboration with the state ministry of Commerce and Industry which is the supervising ministry, even as the Chamber has grown phenomenally through the activities of her highly functional Trade Groups which constitute the wheels of the Chamber, creating notable networks and collaborative opportunities for its vast membership.

The PHCCIMA boss disclosed that membership of the Chamber which is open only to CAC registered private sector operators, opens doors of robust opportunities including member-to-member patronage which forms part of the mantra of the current administration of the Chamber. Other benefits according to her include free consultancy and training, a Trade Mission abroad as well as the opportunity to benefit from corporate financing and access to funding through our partnership with the Bank of Industry and Bank of Agriculture.

Dr. Nwoga also emphasized the exclusive franchise of the Chamber over all the Trade Fairs and associated exhibitions in the state and stressed that organizing Trade Fairs and Exhibitions in the City of Port Harcourt without the approval of the Chamber amounts to risking closure of such fairs and exhibitions. The President added that the doors of the Chamber are open to organized Non-governmental bodies like The Institute of ICAN which are integrity driven, to enjoy members’ benefits therein.
