CITN SEEKS PARTNERSHIP WITH PHCCIMA TO STRENGTHEN TAX SYSTEM REGULATIONS

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria,(CITN)  Port Harcourt  Chapter said it is seeking collaboration with the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce to further enhance its advocacy for tax system regulation, including strengthening partnerships to foster taxpayers’ rights and obligations.

This was the discourse when the 8th Chairperson of CITN, Port Harcourt chapter, Mrs Victoria Okokon led a delegation of CITN executive members on a courtesy visit to the PHCCIMA President, Dr Chinyere Nwoga, at the corporate office in Port Harcourt.

Mrs Okokon congratulated the PHCCIMA boss on her election, expressing delight to have her as the first female President of the Chamber since its inception in 1957, commending her remarkable strides since her assumption of office.

“Madam President, we are here today to explore means of collaboration and partnership between the Institute and the Chamber, to work closely to achieve set objectives” she said.

While acknowledging the current challenges and developments in the taxation landscape, she said

 issues of taxation have attracted so much attention in both private and public sectors which calls for extra efforts on the institute to work with other groups who share a common goal to achieve smooth tax reform operations to promote accountability across the sectors. She said there was a growing need for the organizations to support each other in their operations. even as she suggested other areas of collaboration like education among others.

Earlier, the Chairman of PHCCIMA Financial Services Trade Group Ambassador Clement Akanibo spoke on the critical roles of the members of the institute in all matters that bother taxation in the state and at various levels, promising that the institute will give PHCCIMA all necessary support to ensure her success.

In her speech, PHCCIMA President Dr. Chinyere Nwoga appreciated the visit saying PHCCIMA is open to establishing collaborative relationships with the institute, particularly in the area of joint training and advocacy. She said the strength of the Chamber is drawn from the success of its members in their businesses, so tax reforms that will make business seamless are a priority for her administration.

Dr Nwoga urged them to keep the Chamber informed about their forthcoming Taxation Conference,  expressing hope they will render the required professional services to Chamber members

She reminded them of the One Stop Shop  services  in the Chamber and requested them to return to take up their desk in the shop to make their services easily available to Members of the Chamber

The Vote of thanks was rendered by Sir Dan Harrison the past Financial Secretary of the Chamber who appreciated members of the Institute for the auspicious visit. Highlight of the event was the decoration of PHCCIMA president as honorary member of Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT)Rivers State chapter.
